Navigating the Early Years: New Research on Marital Pain-Points and Challenges

We are proud to announce the release of our latest qualitative research report, “Pain-Points and Challenges in Marriage Among Couples Within 0-5 Years.”.

This comprehensive study, conducted by the Chinyere Dozie Marital Development Center over a two-year period (2023-2025), captures the authentic “voices” of newlyweds navigating the unique urban pressures of Lagos and the traditional dynamics of Owerri.

What’s Inside the Report? Our findings identify the critical modern stressors affecting marital stability today, including:

  • Economic Strain: How financial debt and high living costs trigger early conflict.
  • Communication Gaps: The impact of digital distractions and smartphones on eroding intimacy.
  • External Influences: The complex role of in-law involvement in modern Nigerian marriages.
  • Preparation Gaps: Why couples are often better prepared for the wedding ceremony than the marriage itself.

Our Commitment to Impact This report is more than just data—it is a roadmap for our future interventions. Moving forward, the IWFI will use these findings to roll out evidence-based workshops, retreats, and counseling frameworks designed to help young families thrive.
